We were warned ahead of time that it was off season and that meant all supplies were scarce. No food after 5 PM or before 8 AM. OK. We had stocked up in Salt Lake City to make sure we had full flexibility for hiking and making images. We brought lasagna, ham and cheese, tortilla chips, jerky, and lots of water! So - come what may, we wouldn't go hungry!
The room at the Boulder Mountain Lodge was wonderful! It was large, clean, full of light! We loved it! We slept like we had never slept before. By the time we awoke it was 7:30 and by the time we were cleaned up and ready for the day, the one restaurant was open! Another rendition of Huevos Rancheros and the day was started!
We elected to drive down the Burr Trail that day and see what there was to see! OMG - how beautiful it was!!
About halfway through the day, we found what may be the best picnic spot in the world! It was about lunch time and all the sudden we see the first sign we have seen in may miles. It simply says; Picnic Spot! We drive off the main road and found this!
After our lunch we headed onto Lake Powell and more amazing images!!
Enjoy!

Utah - Feb 2012 - Day 2
We were up and at it early the next morning, leaving Provo early. On out way out of town we found this marvelous diner; Village Inn. We stopped for a bite and found that they had homemade pie as well as breakfast all day. Cheri had the first Huevos Rancheos of the trip. As we were preparing to pay the check, we decided to get some pie; three pieces to be exact. We had it to go so we could take it on our adventure!
We started south, destination Boulder, UT! There were lots of ways to get there, but John had researched Highway 12 and it looked gorgeous! So we decided to drive a bit extra on this first day and partake of all Highway 12 had to offer!
Good thing there weren't too many roads where we were headed, because not even the GPS gets signal in that part of the world!! Who knew there were places in the US that were that far off the grid?! As for cell phones...forget about them too. Heaven!
We enjoyed the prairie dogs and hawks on the way down.
As we pulled off the big roads and onto Highway 12, we were rewarded almost immediately with stunning red rocks and brilliant sites! The sun was shining, the sky was blue and we were very happy!
We continued on, after our initial image making, and were soon at Bryce Canyon. In our opinion, it is one of the wonders of the US! The vast number of hoodoo formations that have formed in this canyon are like no where else that we have seen in such vastness! After riding for hours we were ready for a hike. Choosing the Queen's Garden as our destination, we loaded our packs with camera gear, warm gear, water and tripods. Down we hiked! Cheri had always wanted to shoot this place in winter to capture the snow on the red rocks! Dream come true!!
By the time we finished, it was heading toward dark and time for us to find Boulder, UT. We had booked into the Boulder Mountain Lodge and were hoping it was a good place to stay. Boy was it!
Enjoy!

Utah - Feb 2012 - Day 1
Hi Everyone!
John and Cheri had another adventure! In October, we booked a ski trip to Utah. After getting closed out for good snow last year at Jackson Hole, we figured we would cinch our chances and head out to Utah; the greatest snow on earth! Fast forward to the last week in February and we all now know that the 11-12 season was one of the worst for snow across most of the US!
Not to be thwarted, we decided to skip the skiing and instead head into Utah’s southern National and State park’s. What a good choice that was!! We flew into Salt Lake on a Saturday and spent the first night there. That gave us plenty of time to skip up to Antelope Island for a romp with the buffalo and hawks that are plentiful this time of year.
At dark, we headed down to Provo to spend the night.
Enjoy!

We built a new house in our old stomping grounds! For now, it is a weekend house. When we retire this will be the house we retire to. It sure is nice to be near family again!
