Today
was our day to explore Lake Louise and its spectacular greenish blue lake. Dottie sang her special parking song, and lo
and behold, a parking spot emerged from a very crowded parking lot.
We
had been wondering about that gorgeous color of all the water bodies in the
region and learned that the color was due to something called rock flour that
comes from powdered rock from the glaciers in the area. The glaciers continue to melt and in the melt
is the ground up rock flour which then pours into the streams, rivers and lakes
to create the aquamarine green blue color.
We
had decided to hike some easy trails. We
found one that walked along Lake Louise and then headed up toward the 6 plains
glaciers. It was 4.5 miles in all with
stunning views.
As
we approached the famous hotel at Lake Louise - Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise,
we decided we deserved beers and appetizers at the famous hotel. We sat in the sun on the deck enjoying our
well-deserved libations.
Our
intent had been to go home along Rt. 1, the Trans-Canada Highway, but we missed
the turn and ended up on Rt 1A, the scenic byway. We stopped at a General store on Bow Valley
Parkway (Rt. 1A) to get directions to
get back on RT. 1. Paid $21 for a 4 pack of Grizzly Paw beer and directions and
use of potty. Guess the extra $7c were
for the directions and potty.
On
the way home we were treated to a nearly full moon! Beautiful!
Mercifully
we had previously prepared the Chicken Verde that we ate for dinner that night
because we were all dog tired.
