October 30, 2014 - Bangkok and late boats

We landed in Bangkok and as we exited the plane a woman was waiting for us with our names on a sign.  She whisked us and two other passengers onto a cart and drove us at least a mile to the passport control.  She then walked us to this special area for first class and diplomats and we were through in record time!  She, and a colleague, then accompanied us to baggage claim and picked up our luggage and walked it through the airport to get it checked into our next flight on another airline!!  The guy stayed with us until we found an ATM, found a place to leave our hand luggage and told us how to get the train into Bangkok,  all a part of their service.....who knew?!  Wow!

We headed for the train and went to see the Grand Palace.   We just followed our noses and found our way.  We picked up a guide as we entered and spent an hour seeing the palace and a few Buddha’s.  Very cool!

The train was very efficient and cheap at 45 baht or about $1.35 each way.  Taking a cab for 150 baht got us to the Grand Palace. We found a guide as soon as we entered the palace area.  He was an off duty officer and for a cheap 500 baht ($15) he gave us an excellent tour and made sure we saw the key elements of the palace given the time we had to see it.  The emerald Buddha is a big feature and he showed us the three outfits she wears throughout the year.  Before we knew it, we had taken the train back to the airport and were waiting for the flight to Phuket.

Bangkok Air turned out to be a good one and even offered a lounge for domestic passengers.  We were given the exit row so John had plenty of leg room and they even offered a free meal on the 1.5 hours flight.  Arriving in Phuket, getting our luggage and we were ready to go!  We got there about 4:30, but we didn't get picked up until 7:15.  Luckily we correctly assessed the situation and decided to get a quick bite at a pub....dinner was not ultimately served until 10:30 and we were headed to bed instead!

The master cabin lived up to the reputation and we have a king sized bed and our own AC.  Sleep.....

Enjoy!
