Sunday September 11 - Calgary to Canmore

A delicious hotel breakfast and then onto provisioning for our bodies!  John, Dottie and Cheri bought new Gore-Tex hiking boots!  Life got really good when all of the sudden we realized that everything was a 25% discount due to the Canadian/US exchange rate!!  Hiking boots were $100 or less, with Dottie's $299 boots were suddenly only $91!  Yeah!!  John got a new winter jacket too.  We decided to get our bear spray for $41C and a lesson on how to use it as well.

Even though it was cold and rainy, Paul had advocated for the Calgary zoo and boy was that a good decision.  Even though the crew offered the science center, he said Zoo!  We packed the car and headed for the zoo in a slight drizzle.  What a great zoo it was!  You could feel the happiness in the animals.  There was a Canadian wilderness section where all the animals we hoped to see in the wild could be seen in the zoo.  We got great pictures of bears, wolves, elk, otters and more!  Then we headed for lunch and a trip in Eurasia.  The butterfly house was so fun!  Colors flirting everywhere and you could even see butterflies emerging from their crylisses. What a great place to hang out while it rained outside.

Snow leopards are one of the rarest cats on earth!  John was adamant that we see the snow leopard.   So we ventured out to see him.  God was with us and as we approached the enclosure, it was feeding time for the snow leopard. We watched the ranger put a hunk of meat on a hanging hook and then we got to see the snow leopard leap and grab the leg meat in his powerful jaws.  Wow!!  There are so few of these cats in the world, we were so privileged to witness him.  We can barely mention hippos, rhinos, droopy humped camels, etc.!

From there, it was off to Canmore.  It looked and felt like snow!  Reports were out that there was snow in Canmore.  Luckily the amounts reported were exaggerated as we had no chains. Canmore was a precious little town with views of the 3 Sisters.  Our condo was right next to a stream and our condo overlooked the 3 sisters.  Cheri and Dottie, being of sound mind, elected not to take the boardwalk through wolf country.  However, John and Paul decided to be brave and take a stroll.  No wildlife seen!

The condo was perfect!  2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a nice kitchen!  Parking underground. Even though it felt cold, we grilled chicken that night with sautéed veggies and were glad to get Molly B's oven roasted potatoes recipe!  Dottie and Paul ventured out for walks most mornings.

The condo was like an oven with no ability to change the thermostat...so we opened the windows!
